Я извиняюсь за опоздание и за английский перевод. Русской версии еще пока не нашла.
Introduction: I don’t think anyone has made any translations from Pati Pati up to now. At least I haven’t seen any. So I’ll write a few words about that. Lately Pati Pati had two corners with Alice Nine. One of them is Shou’s monthly corner – Alice in Wonderwords where he writes an article based on some quote. The other – Words from Alice Nine was a series of 5 articles in 5 consecutive issues of Pati Pati where Shou picked a lyric from their songs, invite each of the other band members, discuss the lyric and make a photo based on this lyric. I’ll try to translate both articles.
Disclaimer: I apologize in advance for any mistake I might have made. I tried my best but I still have a lot to learn. I wish everyone could know how incredibly poetic Shou’s way of expression is. Not only in his lyrics, but even when he talks. He uses such intricate imagery that I would never be able to give it justice. But I hope my translation gave you at least the basic idea. I try to stay close to the text whenever possible but when I can’t I try to just render the meaning or rather my understanding of the phrase. Please keep that in mind.
Words from Alice Nine
This is the last part in the monthly series where Shou invites his band members and makes a presentation of the band’s words (lyrics) in photographs. All 5 band members made appearance, Shou selected the lyrics and together they created this article.
Here the story that Alice Nine has woven comes to an end.
Kowarete hibiki au sore demo ii sa~ (Subete e)
Even if we’re broken, we’ll resound together, that is also good.
Shou: Overall “Subete e” lyrics are extravagant all the way so it was hard to choose just one verse. I guess the “broken~” part is the explanation about people who play in bands. One by one we are lacking, but in a band we complement each other and resound like one music.
Hiroto: Of course, the lacking band members. (laugh)
Tora: Since we are all broken.
Shou: (laugh) But I think in the long run if you look at it it’s all thanks to the band members.
Saga: I composed this song and I remember when Shou-kun added the lyrics I talked to the producer and he (or I) said: “The lyrics are awesome!” It’s Buddha level! He achieved enlightenment.
Shou: Even though there are all sorts of hard things and foul things but not hating the world and declaring “I love you”, even now looking at it I think it’s cool.
Hiroto: The picture we took this time to represent the lyrics, isn’t it good? Although I do think at the time of the band’s formation we had the chance to do a photoshoot while chatting, even now without changing the feeling from that time, being able to do this is a wonderful thing, isn’t it?
Nao: The things that we talked about that time were out of a dream. The kind of things you can’t say loudly. (laugh) The aura or should I say pheromones that we emanate gives off a mature feeling. We’ve become adults. (laugh)
Shou: This time we decided all 5 of us should participate. Before we would invite band members one by one, I’m glad now we can summarize with “Subete e”. If I were to say one thing, normally the vocalist is sitting in the middle so there’s no problem, but when you sit in the corner because of the wide-angle lens your face gets stretched so I really hate it! (laugh)
Saga: Saga and Tora become the victims of this effect almost every time! By the way, I proposed something called “incorporation” but it was dismissed. I want to try it sometime.
Shou: It didn’t seem good so we decided to go without.
Tora: Thus we extracted a part of the lyrics, did a photoshoot, and created a new concept. It was really enjoyable.
Shou: That’s right. Before out 9th anniversary we managed to revise our lyrics and history, reaffirm the band that is Alice Nine. I would be happy if people who read this series will get interested in our music even a little.
